How to check / add Coolant / Antifreeze (Low Coolant Warning) to BMW X1, X3 F25, X5, 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series 2.0 Diesel (2011-2017)
Today I will show you how to add coolant and check antifreeze level to BMW X1, X3 F25, X5, 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series models with a 2.0 Diesel engine (2011-2017).

This is a 2011 BMW X3 F25 2.0 diesel and I will show you how to check and add coolant quickly and easily. The coolant tank is located in the engine compartment on the left side of the car.
Be careful to add antifreeze of the same color as you have in your coolant tank.
This is the coolant tank, but be careful, do not open the cap when the engine is hot. Wait a few minutes until it cools down, otherwise you can get injured from the hot coolant that is under pressure inside the tank.
There are also two arrows on the tank and the cover that you must take into account to be aligned when you tighten the cap back.
To know how much coolant to put in the tank, you will have to look inside the tank where you will see a yellow plastic that indicates the minimum and maximum level. So you have to put coolant until it reaches the “max” mark.
You should know that coolant evaporates over time, meaning that every 2-3 years it needs to be checked and if it has dropped below the minimum level, it needs to be topped up, but the car will tell you this through the “Check coolant level” message on instrument cluster display.
If you have to top up more often, then there is probably a problem with the radiator which may be broken or with one of the hoses from the coolant system which may be cracked or in the worst case, problems with the cylinder head gasket. And to solve these problems you will have to go to a car dealer to fix it.
You should also know that there is coolant that you can pour directly into the tank or there is another version that must be mixed with distilled water in a proportion specified on the bottle (usually half water and half concentrated coolant). It is important to top up with coollant of the same color as you have in the tank.
In this case, the BMW X3 F25 uses a G11 blue coolant.
Here the coolant level is above maximum level because the engine is still hot but if I wait for 10-15 minutes, the coolant level will drop below maximum mark.
