First, disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. To access the relay, you will need to remove the engine splash shield.
Here is the fan control module or relay on Volkswagen Golf 4.
This way you can see the series of the Electric Fan relay without removing it.
Here I filmed on a car without an engine, this is to better show how to remove the Fan Control Module and the two plugs, but you can remove the relay from under the car.
Then you will need to remove the two bolts using a 10 mm socket or wrench.
The electric fan relay must be purchased with the same series and have the same letter at the end of the series (K, Q, L, M, G, etc.). In this case, the series of our relay is 1J0919506L.
Disconnect the two plugs and take it out.
Press on the clamp and then pull the plug out.
On the second plug, you have to insert a flat blade screwdriver in that clamp, press it and then pull the plug out.
The second method to remove the plug is to insert a thin and flat blade screwdriver under that clip, as indicated by the arrow, and then pull the plug outwards.
This is a similar plug but in a better condition then the other one from the Electric Fan Relay. So, you just have to insert the screwdriver and press it to remove the plug.
