TUTORIAL: How to remove the steering wheel airbag on VW Golf Mk5, Jetta, Passat B6, Beetle, Touran, Scirocco in 7 steps

If you want to remove / replace the steering wheel airbag on VW Golf Mk5, Jetta, Passat B6, Beetle, Touran, Scirocco you just have to follow 7 simple steps.

Neccessary tools:

– a 10 mm wrench or a ratchet and a 10 mm socket: https://amzn.to/3wUiff8
– a flat blade screwdriver, but not more than 16 mm length: https://amzn.to/3thkKWs

 

STEP 1: open the hood, remove the battery cover and disconnect the terminals using a 10 mm wrench

Start with the Negative terminal first then followed by the Positive.

STEP 2: pull the steering wheel up and towards you

STEP 3: place the key in the ignition and unlock the steering wheel

STEP 4: rotate the steering wheel at 90 degrees to have acces at the holes on the back

STEP 5: take a flat blade screwdriver and pop it downward towards the column

STEP 6: do it again turning the steering wheel in the opposite direction at 180 degrees

STEP 7: unplug yellow airbag connector using a flat blade screwdriver.
