The hybrid battery compartment air filter (or dust filter) prevents dust particles, leaves and dirt from entering the battery ventilation system.

Maintaining it in good condition ensures proper cooling, optimal performance and longevity of the hybrid battery in Toyota and Lexus models.

Why should you replace it?

– Because it prevents the battery from overheating: a clogged filter reduces air flow and increases the battery temperature.

– The constant temperature protects the cells and at the same time maintains the autonomy and optimal functioning of the hybrid system.

– Reduces the risk of defects: dust and debris can cause blockages, corrosion or problems with sensors and ventilation ducts.

– Long-term savings: by preventing major damage, you reduce the cost of repairs or battery replacement.

When to replace it?

Our recommendation is to do it every 15,000 kilometers or at the oil service inspection (check your car’s manual).

Signs that the filter needs to be replaced or cleaned:

  • poor battery air conditioning performance
  • hybrid system warnings on the dashboard
  • unusual noises from the battery area
  • odors or visible dirt accumulation in the fan compartment.

Replace the filter with an original or compatible dust filter specific to the model.

1. Open the door on the right rear side and see that the filter is on the lower right side of the backseat.

2. Unscrew the plastic screw with a Phillips screwdriver or a trim removal tool if it does not come out unscrewed

3. Remove the cover and you will see the old air filter.

4. Remove the old filter and replace it with the new one

5. Reinstall the cover under the seat and tighten the plastic screw back in place

Start and check: start the hybrid system, check for normal operation or check for the absence of errors on the dashboard.

Practical advice

Use a genuine Toyota filter or equivalent quality; cheap filters may have low efficiency.

Note the date and mileage of the replacement for the next maintenance.

If you notice errors or anomalies after replacement, contact an authorized Toyota service center.

Conclusion

Regular replacement of the hybrid battery dust filter on Toyota C‑HR, Corolla, RAV4 and Lexus NX, UX, IS, ES models is a relatively simple operation that protects the performance and life of the hybrid battery.
