How to Remove (Dismantle) Steering Wheel Airbag on Ford Focus 2, Ford Fiesta 6 Mk6, C-Max (2005-2011) in 7 Easy Steps.
Removing the steering wheel airbag is a dangerous and strictly regulated intervention. Airbags are safety components that can explode, cause serious injuries or compromise the operation of the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). In addition, unauthorized interventions can void warranties and have legal consequences. In this article I will explain how to remove the steering wheel airbag on a Ford Focus 2 (2005-2011) without exposing yourself to danger.
Tools needed:
– flat blade screwdriver: https://amzn.to/3uy4FMd
– 10 mm wrench (or socket): https://amzn.to/3wEAkSJ
1. First disconnect the battery terminals and wait 5 to 10 minutes before removing the airbag.
2. Adjust the steering wheel so that it is as low and as close to you as possible.
3. Insert the key in the ignition to unlock the steering wheel and then turn the steering wheel to the left to remove the plastic on top.
4. Then turn the steering wheel to the right to remove the plastic on the right side and then remove it.
There are 3 holes where you need to insert the flat blade screwdriver to unclip the airbag.
5. Unclip the airbag using a flat blade screwdriver. All you have to do is insert the screwdriver and press its handle down to remove the clip from the airbag.
6. Disconnect that cable by pulling it outwards.
7. Disconnect the airbag plug by pressing on the two clips on the sides.
Those are keeping in place the steering wheel.
