TUTORIAL: How to tell if timing belt has been changed on VW, Audi Skoda, Seat service book from Belgium or Netherlands
This is a VW Passat B7, 2014, 2.0 TDI with 140 HP that was bought from Belgium (or Netherlands) and we want to check if the timing belt was changed / replaced. We will check the service book to see if there’s a record or not (service history). Usually the service book is located in the glove compartment.
This service book is avalaible also for other VW models like: CC, Eos, Golf Mk7, Golf Cabriolet, Golf GTD, Golf GTI, Passat, Passat Variant, Polo, Scirocco, Sharan, Golf Variant, Golf Plus, Tiguan, Touran, Touareg, Up!, Beetle, Jetta, etc.
See in the service book if the words „Getande riem = timing belt” has been checked „Ja” wich means „Yes”.
By the looks of the service history, the services were kept up regularly at 30.000 km. The first scheduled service appointment is usually at 30,000 kilometers, which means examining fluid levels, taking a look at the brakes, changing the air filter, fuel filter, cabin filter, etc. and oil change as well.
VW recommend that a timing belt has to be changed at every 5 years or 210.000 km.
