TUTORIAL: How to remove / replace blower motor resistor on VW Golf Mk4, Jetta in 4 steps

For those who want to change / or remove the blower motor resistor from their VW Golf Mk4, we have a video tutorial below. Learn how to do it in just 4 simple steps:

First, you have to know  that on the VW Golf Mk4 the blower motor resistor is located behind the glove box (glove compartment), on the passenger side.

Necessary tools:

  • A ratchet
  • A 6 mm socket
  • A ratchet extension
  • A flat blade screwdriver


STEP 1: remove the plastic screw from the right side of the foam cover

STEP 2: move the foam cover to the left to disconnect the wiring harness

Squeeze those two clips of the harness and pull it out.

STEP 3: use a ratchet and a 6 mm socket to remove the two screws from the resistor

STEP 4: take the blower motor resistor out
