So, if you having a problem with climatronic system (air conditioner) or when left side is blowing cold or hot air and the passenger’s side is blowing the oppossite air or HVAC temperature is inconsistent, you probably have to check or replace one of the HVAC motors or actuators (V68, V70, V71, V85) for Temperature Flap (Air Recirculation Flap Positioning Motor).

The V85 air flow flap positioning servomotor or actuator (motor) is responsible for closing and opening the air vents flaps from the windshield defroster and the driver, front passenger, and rear passenger footwell. You can find the V85 motor using the serial number 8D2820511C.

On the right side of the Climatronic AC Heater Box (HVAC) is located the V71 air flow flap positioning motor, which is responsible for the air recirculation. If you want to remove it, you just have to remove one single 5.5 mm screw. You can find the V71 motor using the serial number 1J1907511A.

In this picture you can see the air recirculation switch from a VW Golf Mk4 with Climatronic system.

The V68 and V70 air flow flap positioning motors are located in the lower part of the Climatronic AC Heater Box (HVAC). To identify them more easily, the green one is V70 and the purple one is V68.

The V70 motor (green) closes and opens the air ventilation flap for the front side vents (driver and passenger) from the dashboard. You can find the V70 motor using the serial number 1J1907511D.

The V68 motor (purple) closes and opens the air ventilation flap for the central air vent on the dashboard, above the center console. You can find the V68 motor using the serial number 1J1907511C.

To remove V68, V70 & V85 motors you have to unscrew 3 bolts using a 5.5 mm socket or wrench.
